My name is Richard Barnett, and I am the Finance Director of Disability Matters.
I have worked with children and young people for over 7 years across multiple settings, including outdoor activity centres, SEN schools and Independent schools. During those years, by far the most incredible experiences were always those involving helping those children and young people break their barriers and achieve things they didn’t think they could. Whether they were jumping from terrifying heights or using new strategies to self-regulate; whether facing their fears or simply facing the challenges of not knowing what comes next, it was always the greatest privilege to share in their joy and success as they achieved their goals and exceeded their own expectations.
Though my path has since diverged into a different industry, the world of financial services, the underpinning idea of Disability Matters has always remained close to my heart. That idea is that people should not be defined by what they cannot do. We should always try to remember to see people for what they are capable of, and to nurture and develop them so that they can achieve that potential. It is about one’s ability, not disability.
I am truly proud to be a part of such an amazing company with an awe-inspiring vision. Not just a company, but a family and a community that will grow to make the world a better place for those with an SEN and their families.
From the bottom of my heart, welcome to Disability Matters.
