What We Offer

At Disability Matters we see beyond a person’s disability.
We see the possibilities and potential for growth in all our service users. It is the foundation of our ethos of ‘Learning for Life’. It is our focus when working alongside our families and special communities, whomever and wherever they may be.
Subject to current Covid restrictions, as standard we offer the following:
  • Pick up and drop off from home every session – we come to you.
  • Accessible, supported day activities such as cinema, bowling, swimming, park and play opportunities.
  • Sport and recreation dates either 1:1 with our dedicated support workers or pre-arranged joint activities with the permission of our families and service users.
  • Walk and Talk – a lot of our young people enjoy accessing the local community, going for walks, chatting, and picnicking.
  • Pre-arranged support at play and youth centres around London such as Chickenshed, Action for Kids, Arts Depot, Unitas, The Old Barn.
  • We also provide extra activities through third-party professionals at an additional cost. We are always working hard to expand the selection of activities available.
With this in mind, where it is appropriate and with the approval of the service user and their family, each support worker will be able to provide the following in our tailored sessions.
  • Life skills training
  • Personal and self care guidance and strategies
  • Basic road safety guidance
  • Safety and accessing the community and facilities
  • Travel training on public transport (how to buy, use and top up an Oyster card)
  • Shopping including how to identify items in store from a shopping list, interacting with shop staff, using overpayment method at tills and self-service machines, packing their own bags.
  • Cooking and meal preparation including using an oven, microwave where appropriate and with permission from our families.

Who We Are

The knowledge and expertise of the minds behind Disability Matters is shared with every member of the team, ensuring that everyone in our family provides consistent and quality care.

Our Approach

Every young person, adult and service user is unique, so we have built a framework of services that adapt fluidly to the needs and wishes of the individual and families we support.
